What Flowers Will Bloom Next Month? August 2026

Common Elephant’s Foot

What a difference a month makes! We’ve gone from exceptional drought to the wettest July ever recorded. With some decent, soaking rains, the plants have started to come alive again. I am hoping that this rain will allow the plants to put some energy into making some flowers soon.

What flowers can we expect in August? Ditch daisies, goldenrods, bonesets, clematis, southern crownbeard, elephant’s foot, cranefly orchids and camphorweed are some of the many flowers that bloom this month. Ragweed also starts to bloom in August.

I’m curious to see what the tall and giant goldenrods will do. These are the goldenrods that fill the large open areas with beautiful blooms in the late summer. The plants are still only 3 or 4 feet tall. They have a ways to go before they reach their typical 6+ foot height. Some giant goldenrod started to bloom a month early in mid-July , probably from the stress of the drought.

Don’t forget to check the August flower page for a more detailed list of flowers blooming this month.
