A Final Spider Story for Halloween

It’s Halloween, and this week I’ve been telling you about my encounters with spiders this fall. This is the last spider story for now.

Walking on the Hatcher Creek Greenway one day, a spider web caught my attention.

Spider Web

It looked so unusual to me. The outside frame of the web was triangular. The way the sunlight was hitting the silk, it looked like the frame was a series of dashed lines. Of course, there was a beautiful, perfect circular orb in the center. It was just stunning.

There were some thick bushes between me and the web, so I couldn’t get much closer. Here is a cropped picture of the spider inside the web. From the color pattern, it could be a spinybacked orbweaver (Gasteracantha cancriformis), but I’m not sure.

I hope you enjoyed my spider stories this week! Happy Halloween!
