The City Nature Challenge is happening this weekend: April 24-27, 2026. This is an excellent opportunity to participate in a citizen science project. All you have to do is go outside and record nature!
- Take a picture or an audio recording of any WILD living thing (not your potted plants, and not your pets).
- Load the observation to your iNaturalist account.
- Don’t forget to record your location so it can be credited to the proper city. (If you want to maintain your privacy, Wake County is specific enough since the entire region is considered one “city” in this project).
You do not need to know what the observation is. Just take pictures of what you see. Any observation logged on iNaturalist between April 24 and April 27 will automatically be added to the City Nature Challenge.
I will be making observations this weekend, and helping with identifications in the days that follow. The final statistics will be released on May 13, 2026.
Get outside and observe nature!
