By the middle of summer, we typically have no shortage of flowers to look at. This year has certainly been different. The plants are still flowering, but much less than normal. The flowers either wither quickly, or the plants only put out a few blooms with what little energy they have from the lack of water. Unfortunately, this will continue throughout the rest of the growing season this year.
So, what can we expect in July? We should start to see sunflowers, blazing stars, blue mistflowers, pineywoods goldenrod, ironweeds, Joe-pye weeds, winged monkey-flower, winged sumac, great blue lobelia and Virginia dayflower. Be sure to check the July flower page for all of the flowers that can be seen in July.
Let me know what you see on the trails!
