Will any flowers start to bloom in December? Yes! You might have seen some Japanese mazus (Mazus pumilus) in the grass. I have a lot in my back yard. Although Japanese mazus in seen for most of the year, the experts say that it begins to bloom in December.
Of course, there are a few flowers that are still blooming in December. Carolina jessamine, dandelions, common chickweed and henbit are in bloom. December is a time to observe the fruit and seeds from the summer and fall flowers. It is also a great time to watch the plants that will be our early spring bloomers. You’ll notice cranefly orchid and little brown jug leaves popping up in the woods. You can find thistle, clover and dock leaves growing in the sunny fields.
Let me know what you find this month!
