Killdeer Crossing

I was watching a pair of killdeer in the retention pond at the corner of Town Hall Drive and Harris Mill Road. At some point, one bird flew away while the other stayed in the pond. I finished taking my pictures of the bird in the pond, and started to walk to the other side of the pond. The second killdeer was standing on the sidewalk at the corner of Harris Mill Road and Craigmeade Drive. As I went to take its picture, the bird walked over to the crosswalk, looked down the street, and then proceeded to cross the street in the crosswalk. I’m sure the bird didn’t intentionally cross the street in the safety of the crosswalk, but it made me laugh.

Killdeer on the sidewalk
Look before crossing!
Crossing the street using the crosswalk
More than half way across the street and still in the crosswalk
Made it safely across the street!
