What’s new on the trails at the end of July? When the weather is so hot, I usually walk in the early morning. With other obligations, I have not been able to canvas the trails as much as I normally do. The weather should break later this week, and hopefully I’ll be able to get a better report soon.
With my limited coverage I have seen:
- Rose pink
- Scarlet rose mallow
- Cranefly orchids
- Kidneyleaf rosinweed
- Common elephant’s foot
- Spotted spurge
- Chamber bitter

In the last few days, I’ve seen a water snake and a luna moth. Early one morning, I saw two larger male deer and a smaller deer leaping across the field on the Shiloh Greenway. Have you noticed how many dragonflies and damselflies are out now? Sometimes I see swarms of them in people’s yards.
Let me know what you’re seeing on the trails now!
