What’s happening on the trails this week? We’ve had some rain and some warmer temperatures for the last few days. The trees and plants are waking up and changing quickly.
There aren’t too many flowers out there yet. I’m still seeing henbit, hairy bittercress, common chickweed, common groundsel and dandelions. Leatherleaf mahonia is in full bloom, and the honey bees are all over it. I saw quite a number of bird’s eye speedwell flowers on the Crabtree Creek Greenway this week. I even saw a few daffodils while driving yesterday. I’m patiently waiting for the bluets.
Look at the ground closely, and you will see many different plants starting to emerge. Look at the tree branches and you will see the leaf buds growing bigger every day. The tree pollen count was high this week, with juniper, cypress, cedar, alder and maple contributing to the numbers.
Spring is on the way! What are you seeing out there?
