Southern Bluet (top) and Tiny Bluet (bottom)

The bluets started to come out last week! It took ten days from when I first noticed a bluet flower bud to when that bud opened. I’m sure the bud was there for a few days before I saw it. So, I think it takes about two weeks from bud to bloom. There are many more buds out there now.

Tiny bluets, southern bluets, and wood sorrel are also starting to bloom.

I saw two pairs of bufflehead ducks today. Over the last month, I’ve only ever seen one or a pair at a time. Today, there were clearly four ducks, although not in the same pond. I wonder how many more buffleheads are visiting Morrisville this winter?
