Solitary white flowers with 6-18 petals surrounding a yellow center. Each plant has only one flower and one leaf. The leaf folds around the flower stalk.

Japanese Mazus

Pale purple flowers with two lips. The lower lip is longer and has 3 lobes. It is white with yellow spots. The upper lip is darker purple.

Leatherleaf Mahonia

3-6 inch spikes of yellow flowers. The leaves resemble holly leaves. There are 9-13 large leaflets, making the entire leaf 1-2 feet long. Fruit is a blue berry.
