It’s almost Halloween, so I thought I’d tell you about my encounters with spiders over the last several weeks. I have a few stories to tell, so check back this week for more spider blogs. This is the second spider story.

In the fall it is quite common to see marbled orb-weaver spiders (Araneus marmoreus). This week, we were lucky enough to witness a marbled orb-weaver building a web in the early morning.

The top right image in the series above shows the silk coming out of the spider. The spider uses its lower legs to pull the silk and attach it to the web. The upper legs are used to climb.

Have you ever watched a spider build a web?
